Elusive Knickers

The other I spent an hour weeding the garden. All the rain we have had lately has brought them to life and the whole garden looks a mess. I walked down to the bottom of the garden to start on the little patch by the fence and remembered that this little plot of land is my wilderness, so the weeds stay put, nettles and all. My Buddha is happily sitting there smiling at me. His world is at peace

Six weeks ago I lost my favourite knickers.
I was like Linus without his blanket. Even if I am not wearing them, I know that they are in the top drawer safe and sound, but even though I searched high and low they were not to be found. I thought back to when I last remember wearing them and then called to ask if he had found them. No.
Yesterday I changed the bedding and opted for the purple bed linen. As I pulled it from the cupboard, my elusive knickers dropped to the floor. My world is at peace.

Following my grand success with the pompom I decided to try my hand at a dream catcher. It didn't turn out too bad but the stitch was a nightmare. Constant tangling of string, uneven pattern, double lines of string rather than single ones. I was so engrossed in the stitch that I forgot to thread the crystal on to represent the spider haha. However, for a first attempt it wasn't too bad. Not finished yet but it's coming along. It took me 2 hours to get it to this stage but I was sat in the sunshine getting a tan at the same time so all was good. My world is at peace.

Orchard

I took the dogs for a walk today up by the lake where I used to live and spotted an apple tree absolutely full of lovely ripe fruit, so started to fill my pockets as I dreamed of pies and sauces.

Five minutes later one of dogs was missing and didn't return despite my whistles and calls.
My face dropped as I looked in the direction I had last seen her and steeling myself I got on my hands and knees and crawled under the tree and into the bushes beyond. Not the most pleasant of pastimes when you are wearing just a pair of shorts and camisole top.

But I am so pleased that she wandered off, because when I found her laying there in the clearing munching away on something and I looked around, I was in a little wild orchard, right there in the middle of the trees and bushes. Crawling in there was the only access and I had to crawl back out, but OMG there were apples everywhere. Not crab apples, proper ones and it didn't look as if anyone else knew that this place existed either. judging by the amount of apples on the floor that were starting to rot. I couldn't believe my luck. Needless to say I went back home, gathered up my foraging basket and returned half an hour later.

Look at this lot

I am definitely keeping that place a secret

Library

I had heard of these things in the past but never actually seen one, so when I found out that I have one practically on my door step, I had to go and have a look.

Behold, the Telephone Box Library

Now this concept wouldn't work just anywhere. Certainly in the village I live, some idiot would have set fire to it long ago. Basically there is no lending card, you simply take a book or books and read them. Hopefully people will return them when they are through and I took along some books to leave in exchange. What a great idea.

Not only did I discover this little secret but as I stepped out of the 'Library' I heard something crunch underfoot and saw an Almond still in its casing. My eyes lit up. If it was still in its pod then it had to have fallen from a tree didnt it? Oh YESSSS
It had indeed and the tree is right next to the library. What a result. Right there scattered all over the floor, ALMONDS GALORE, WHOOHOOOOOO
So I filled my pockets and headed back home with new reading material and a bunch of almonds to press for oil and dry out to use in baking and snack time.

Also today I made a start with my crafting hobby. Scouring the house for odds and ends to recycle I found a bag of wool and thought, what better way to start than by returning to childhood and making a Pompom. So that's exactly what I did. Once finished I didn't have a clue what to do with it so I hung it on the wall in the lounge.

Like it? hee hee

...and so begins many hours of recycling rubbish into things that I have no idea what to do with.

     See you tomorrow

Crafty

Having decided to get crafty, I lay in the bath thinking about things and realised that the Niece room, aka spare bedroom is now redundant and would make a fantastic work space. So I now have to turn it into something resembling a craft room. Here it is...

I have set myself, one simple rule and the rule is that anything I make, including the fit out of the room has to be from recycled products and totally free of charge. I am not allowed to pay for anything, including consumables such as glue. Hee hee, gonna be difficult eh? The rule may have to change but I will at least give it a try.

I have worked out how to make dyes though. Tannin from acorns and the juice from boiled blackberries being the staple. If I make lots of it now whilst the blackberries on the bushes are not good enough for eating and the acorns are a plenty, I can bottle the home made dye in empty bottles and store them in the cupboard (which I haven't made / recycled yet) in the craft room, also unmade as yet.

Tomorrow morning I will start informing friends and family that I need their junk and not to throw it away without first asking me if it's of any use. Anything that I can't use I will ferry to the tip myself and do a bit of skip diving whilst I'm there to find some interesting bits and pieces.

I also have piles of stuff in my shed which I can list on the freecycle web site and I reckon I can collect quite a bit of good stuff from there as well, which should satisfy my rule of all products must be free of charge.

Strange how such a simple project can get me all excited. Must be the child in me.

Stay tuned to find out what rubbish I end up making from rubbish.
